Forum on Citizenship, Human Rights Education in Europe Held in Italy

The Forum on the Present and Future of Citizenship and Human Rights Education in Europe with Young People started on the 11th of April 2022 and will end on the 13th of April 2022. The Forum is taking place in Turin, Italy and was organised by the Human Rights Education Youth Programme under the supervision of the Council of Europe. Moreover, the event has been organised under the Italian Presidency of the Council of Europe which has made youth policy one of its strategic priorities. 

There will be around 400 participants at the Forum who will share their experiences and discuss the implementation of the Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education (EDC/HRE). Some of the objectives of the Forum are also to address the difficulties faced in implementing the EDC/HRE during the Covid-19 health crisis, to further cooperation and exchange between different stakeholders, and make proposals to further develop the EDC/HRE. Additionally, the discussion will also focus on their priorities over the next five years with an overall objective of creating a programme which aligns with the priorities of the Italian Presidency in the Council of Europe. 

With the overall aim of the Forum being the “strengthening the quality, recognition, and outreach of education for democratic citizenship and human rights education with young people”, it is hoped that this can be achieved.
