Food prices increase in Namibia

Food prices increase in Namibia

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) reported that the food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased greatly in the first quarter of 2021. The Namibian, a news agency, reported today, June 28, 2021, that the food prices increased by 5.8 percent according to the NSA. Thus, in Namibia, food is getting more expensive and less accessible for households with a lower income. The possible causes for the food increase are due to the rising value of food imports into the country, such as milk, spices, and vegetables. Unfortunately, even though the food prices are increasing, the incomes of Namibians remain stagnant, resulting in households having less access to food.
