The Equatoguinean activist Anacleto Micha, member of the Center for Studies and Initiatives for the Development of Equatorial Guinea (CEID) an illegal NGO in Equatorial Guinea, assures that the government continues to execute people despite the recent promises of abolishing the death penalty and the moratorium on its application. Anacleto pointed out that there are many strategies to execute people in Equatorial Guinea, from hospital executions through unknown injections (probably poison), to mistreatment in the prison called “Black Beach”, where prisoners don’t have access to medical care, purposefully causing their deaths.

In 2014, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) determined Equatorial Guinea access to the organization with the requirement of abolishing the death penalty in the country. However, no executions have been proceeding since then.  The government also declared an Equatoguinean Penal Code reform that still needs to be approved, but Anacleto and jurists affirm that such a reform still does not guarantee the abolition of death penalty in the country.
