The indigenous area of Sucre, Colombia is currently suffering from the strong summer. The drought is destroying crops and causing the death of cattle. Additionally, without water the communities have not been able to cultivate arrow cane, the raw material for the production of vueltiaos hats, bags and other elements of indigenous culture. In this area, the inhabitants usually make a living out of the sale of this cultural elements. In response to the severe drought, five dams are being built by the government to harvest the water so that the indigenous populations of this region can collect it, take it to the houses and give the animals a drink.
