Covid-19 in Iran: What happened to Rouhani’s vaccine promises?

As Iranian President Hassan Rouhani leaves the office to be succeeded by Ebrahim Raisi, the country is faced with the fifth wave of coronavirus due to unfulfilled presidential promises. Although the president’s office has promised vaccines and other measures to fight the spread of the deadly virus, these promises have turned into hiding the real numbers of affected people and inefficient healthcare measures and the lack of care for those admitted to hospitals. Iran is counted to be between 10 countries with the highest death toll from coronavirus. The situation is increasingly being troubled by the halted vaccination process due to vaccine shortages.
