During the COP26 UN Conference, a new report was launched: “When the climate becomes a threat: Evidence of Climate Change induced Loss and Damage in Nepal” by Dan Church Aid (DCA). The report was launched in the presence of Minister Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Ministry of Forests and Environment. The report assesses the climate change induced damages in all municipalities of Nepal.

According to the report, Nepal is at risk and vulnerable from melting glaciers, and increased temperatures and rain. All municipalities in Nepal have experienced serious flooding, depriving drinkable water in many provinces and landslides that are linked to climate change.

Additionally, the report shows how people were forced to vacate their households, and how water and landslides destroyed many properties, fields and killed their cattle. None of the municipalities received international support however, local authorities and civil society organisations provided immediate support. Nonetheless, at least 82% of the households had to take out loans to recover and reestablish their homes and communities. Instead, 9% of the population decided to permanently leave their homes.
