Before suing Bayer before a German Court, a group of more than 330 Brazilian women send a letter of agreement to the company’s headquarters in Germany to negotiate a redress of 30 million euros for the drastic effects that its contraceptive Essure provoked on their bodies, including repeated bleedings and several sorts of allergies. The letter affirms that the company created false propaganda concerning the safety of the contraceptive by hiding the collateral effects it would provoke on women’s bodies from health professionals and from consumers in general. The website Public Justice Impact Change divulged that an internal auditing process that took place at Bayer in 2008 found out several complaints of North-American customers about Essure in 2008. However, even after becoming aware of these risks, Bayer decided to maintain the medicine in the market. As a result, thousands of victims worldwide have still been facing the consequences of this irresponsible act of the company. In Brazil, victims described that the pain caused by the medicine in their organisms was so severe that they needed to pass through surgeries to remove capsules of Essure from their bodies and to eliminate all the fragments of metal that it released in their bodies.
