0

For months now, various areas of worship have also been destroyed during anti-encroachment drives arranges by the Urban Resource Centre (URC). Three protestant Christian churches have been razed in the part of Gujjar Nullah. The St Joseph’s Catholic Church was the only church still standing until the 30th of August 2021. On Monday the 30th, bulldozers demolished the church, whereafter the roof, pillars and walls fell due to lack of support.
The St Joseph’s Catholic Church was a community area where primarily Christians could meet, share their religion and pray. Usually, over 150 people gather every Sunday. Now, this is barely 20 or 30 people.
Not only churches were demolished but also family homes and stores. Various human rights organizations are trying to assist the victims by consolation, preparation of food, and reconstruction.
