An Injured Papuan Protestor Dies in Jayapura Hospital.

Ferianus Asso, a twenty-nine years old Papuan protestor, died after receiving intensive treatment for gunshot wound at the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Jayapura, Papura Province on Sunday, August 22nd.
Asso was fatally injured from an accidental shot by the police officers who were attempting to disrupt a demonstration in Dekai, Yahukimo District, on August 16th. He was admitted to the local hospital in Dekai, but then was moved to the Bhayangkara Police Hospital for further medical treatment.
Papua Police Chief Inspector General, Mathius Fakhiri is still waiting for a comprehensive report from the head of the Papua Police’s Health Department on Sunday, August 22nd regardless of the body has been handed to the family in Sentanti, the capital of Jayapura District for funeral.
The protestors, including Ferianus Asso, were demanding an immediate release for Viktor Yeimo from the National Committee of West Papua (KNPB) after being accused of treason against the Indonesian Government and conspiring for Papuan-West Papuan Independence on May 2021.
