The report released on March 30, 2021, released by the Liberian Observer on 1 April 2021, published by the US State Department, highlights various human rights issues and corrupt practices in 2020, including arbitrary killings by police. Cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment or punishment by the police and harsh and life-threatening prison conditions of Liberian prisons were also stated in the report. Serious problems with the independence of the judiciary and serious restrictions on the freedom of the press were also the main human rights abuses of the Liberian government. The Liberian government is expected to issue a response to the report today, 1 April 2021 at its official press briefing.
