A new law to strengthen State authority

The National Assembly adopted a draft law that aims to enhance State central authority. Moustapha Diané, the rapporteur of the “commission des lois”, stated that the purpose of the new law was to ensure the respect of republican values, such as equality between citizens and safeguarding the general interest of the State. The present text strengthens the existing legislation in the field of public order, public poverty or State agents’ physical integrity. Concerns have been raised on the possibility that the new law may further lead to the lack of persecution of violent acts committed by police officers against protesters.
