The LGBTQ+ Community in Namibia remains facing hinderances in access to services and protection

According to the Namibia Diverse Women’s Association (NDWA), systemic biphobia, homophobia, and transphobia continue to affect and hinder the country’s LGBTQ+ Community in regards of accessing services and protection measures. During the commemoration of the International Day against Biphobia, Homophobia, and Transphobia, on 17 May 2021, the NDWA highlighted the struggles the community has been continuously experiencing. In Namibia, there is a lack of enabling and protective legislative frameworks, inclusive service deliverables as well as the protection of rights with full justice for the community. The NDWA emphasized the importance of realizing the existence, recognition of the experiences and realties faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community in Namibia. The NDWA furthermore stated that the LGBTQ+ Community continues to experience human rights violations such as hate-speech, family disownment, denial of human dignity and discrimination on the basis of their status, as well as a lack of enabling and protective legislative environments.
