Human Rights in EU’s Turkey Agenda

0

Last week, EU leaders were part of a summit where Turkey’s integration and affairs with the European Union were on the agenda. According to Human Rights Watch, geopolitics and migrations have changed the EU’s priority list concerning human rights. Turkish President Erdogan has demonstrated many times that he would rather compromise the respect of human rights for other political and electoral interests. The latest decision, Turkey’s withdrawal from the treaty, which was created to protect women, did not spark any reaction in Brussels. The EU should take a much more strict and demanding position in the future if they want Turkey to become more democratic and, eventually, a member-state.
