Russia has interfered in Ukraine’s internal affairs starting with the 2013-14 Euromaidan protests. The protests represented a wave of civil unrest. They targeted Viktor Yanukovych’s decision, the President of Ukraine at that time, which meant to suspend the finalisation of a potential agreement with the European Union. The 2014 Ukrainian Revolution followed several violent protests taking place within the country. In the Russophone regions of Ukraine, people were protesting, leading to a political crisis that included the territory of Crimea.
