The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements made promises to roughly 5,549 people that they would get houses under the government subsisdised housing project called ‘Middelvlei, Randfontein Project’ in 2012. After 3,671 people got their houses, the project was stopped in 2015. The spokesperson for Human Settlements, Mr. Castro Ngobese stated that the housing project was stopped because it was not ‘financially viable’. The remaining 1,878 who were promised to get a house in the area have been allocated housing in other areas. Many people have been asking for help from municipality offices, but Mr. Ngobese stated that the housing department is ‘dealing with the matter internally’ and that they are working hard to give the deserving their allocated houses.
