Nigeria suspends Twitter across the country

Nigeria’s Information Minister Lai Mohammed announced, on June 4th, 2021, the suspension of the microblogging and social media platform, Twitter, in the country. This decision comes after Twitter deleted a post by President Muhammadu Buhari, which the platform considered a violation of its policies. Minister Lai Mohammed announced the suspension of the social media platform on Twitter, claiming the decision was effective immediately and for an indefinite period. 

The decision caused shock among Nigerians, who claim the action is illegal and an infringement of their freedom of expression. Similarly, Twitter has reacted, stating the suspension is deeply concerning.
